Make a Coven of Smiling Cake Pop Witches for Halloween

It is finally fall and that means Halloween is around the corner. Soon it will be time for costumes, shadowy incantations, and Halloween parties. You can make your own smiling coven of cake pop witches to cast spells of delight on your family and party guests.

You can mix in some non-witchy pops too. Just add some sprinkles.

Instructions
Make ahead - Make your favorite cake pop recipe, and cool completely. Add yellow food coloring to a golf ball size piece of white fondant, and work in. Roll fondant out thin and cut circles for eyes with a #12 piping tip. Set aside to dry and become firm. Cut candy corn tips for noses. Take the frosting center out of the sandwich cookies.

Melt lime green melting candy by the double boiler method or in the microwave in 10 second intervals (stirring each time) until melted, dip the end of sucker stick in the melted candy, and insert into cake ball, set aside to cool. For tips on this step, see my post You Dogs are Silly. Have the chocolate cookie hat brims, fondant eyes, and candy corn noses ready to go before you dip the cake ball. Dip pop into melted green candy, tap off excess and apply yellow fondant circles for eyes, and candy corn for a nose. Set aside to cool.

Mix small drops of orange food coloring, plus 1 teaspoon of piping gel into approximately 1 cup of white frosting until you get the color you want to make the hair, place in a piping bag fitted with a #16 piping tip. Mix small drops of purple food coloring plus 1 teaspoon of piping gel into 1 cup of white frosting until you get the color you want to make the hat tops, and place into a piping bag fitted with a #805 piping tip. Mix small drops of blue into approximately 1/4 cup white frosting, plus ¼ teaspoon of piping gel, until you get the color you want to make spider legs, place into a piping bag fitted with a #3 piping tip.

Pipe the purple frosting on the top of the chocolate cookie. With a toothpick apply a drop of melted lime green chocolate to the brim of the hat and apply the spider M&M. Once the M&M is set, pipe the light blue frosting onto the M&M for spider legs.  Apply a nickel size drop of melted green candy to the top of the witch head, apply the hat, (you might have to hold it in place for a few seconds) set aside for 10-15 minutes. Pipe the hair on.

Let all the pops stand for approximately 20 minutes. Dip one end of a striped straw into melted lime green candy and slide over the sucker stick. Draw smiles and eyes. Place into a spook-tacular container.
